Huawei introduced in China a new budget smartphone Honor Play 8A.

Manufacturers have equipped the Honor Play 8A with a large 6.09-inch HD + display with a drop-shaped notch and an eight-core processor MediaTek Helio P35.

Throughout the year, Honor relied on technological innovations to achieve a counterattack of Internet brands on the battlefield. She managed to become in 2018 one of the biggest winners of Chinese mobile phone brands.

To launch the “first shot” of the New Year 2019, Honor introduced a budget smartphone at a price of just over $ 100. With it, the company wants to continue to seize its share of the market of low-cost phones.

Honor Play 8A: Design

The appearance of the Honor Play 8A is quite original due to the small drop-shaped cut above the extended screen and the vertical inset on the back panel. Because of these features, the device looks like a smaller copy of the Honor 8X Max.

Almost the entire front surface is occupied by a large 6.09-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9. To be more precise, 87% of the entire front area.

Despite the fashionable elongated screen, the phone cannot be called frameless, the frame from the bottom is quite large, apparently, in order to place the inscription Honor on it. The back panel also resembles 8X Max, only without a second camera, a finger scanner (it’s not there at all) and the AI Camera label.

Honor Play 8A is also equipped with an independent power amplifier Smart PA, and the volume of the external volume is up to 30% compared with the previous generation. The case of the smartphone is made of quality materials, it is a plastic back and a metal frame. Honor Play 8A looks much more expensive than a $ 100 mobile phone.

Currently, the smartphone is sold in four colors: black, golden, blue and red.

The dimensions of the smartphone are 156.3 x 73.5 x 8.0 mm, weight 150 grams. So, the novelty is light for its diagonal, but the case itself is quite long.

Honor Play 8A: Display

Honor Play 8A has not the most clearly, but large and trendy 6.09-inch display. IPS-matrix is used with a resolution of 1560 x 720 pixels (aspect ratio 19.5: 9).

The pixel density of 283 per inch, which is not impressive, the screen can’t be called really clear, although this figure is pretty close to a comfortable level.

Honor Play 8A: Performance

Honor Play 8A received not a budget, but quite an average performance. Here, 3 GB of RAM, and as the chipset comes the new MediaTek Helio P35 (MT6765), made according to the norms of the 12-nanometer process technology.

Eight ARM cores with the Cortex-A53 architecture (not the smartest and newest, but energy efficient) with operating frequencies up to 2.3 GHz for one half of the cores and up to 1.8 GHz for the other were used. As graphics go PowerVR GE8320.

In general, this is a new processor and no one really saw it in action, but the same is used in Xiaomi Mi Play. Judging by the first tests in the network, the processor gets to score about 86 thousand points in AnTuTu – not a record, but quite a decent result at an average level between the already very old Snapdragon 625 and the not very new 636th. This should be enough for vigorous daily use, and for the smooth operation of applications and heavy games, even if at low settings.

The novelty received quite good memory volumes: 32 or 64 GB constant along with 3 GB of RAM. This is quite enough for a normal life and full use of the smartphone. There is also a slot for microSD memory cards up to 512 GB. By the way, the slot for it will be separate.

Works Honor Play 8A running the latest Android OS 9 Pie, along with the proprietary shell EMUI 9.0.

Honor Play 8A: Camera

This is surprising, but Honor Play 8A in 2019 managed not to get a double or triple camera. There is only one main rear camera with a resolution of 13 MP and one front camera for 8 MP.

The main camera has phase focusing, LED flash, a relatively wide aperture of f / 1.8 and shooting video in Full HD (1080p, 30 fps).

The front camera has a fixed focus, f / 2.0 aperture, and also provides recognition of the owner’s face and unlocking (recall that there is no finger scanner here).

The cameras are not the strength of this smartphone, although for their money they look quite adequate.

Wireless communications Honor Play 8A typical state employees:

  • Simple Wi-Fi b / g / n per band
  • LTE support
  • Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP profile
  • FM radio
  • A-GPS (and GLONASS with BeiDou).

Everything is typical, except that the radio is already out of fashion. Also, there is no fingerprint scanner, but instead it offers a face recognition function. There is support for two Nano SIM cards.

Honor Play 8A: Battery

From Honor Play 8A you should not expect very high autonomy, it has a rather ordinary battery with a capacity of 3020 mAh, which is not very inspiring for such a diagonal.

On the other hand, there is a modest screen resolution and a thin 12-nm process technology of the processor. But even with this, you can hardly afford to charge your smartphone less than once a day.

Honor Play 8A: Price and Availability

Honor Play 8A will be inexpensive, in China, it is available to order from January 8, the expected price tag – 119-129 $.

It is already clear that it is inexpensive and sounds interesting, and the device will be able to compete, seemingly unbeatable in democratic prices, with Xiaomi smartphones.
